Activation Server Determined Key Is Blocked

What This Error Means

Windows contacted Microsoft's activation servers and received a response that your product key is blocked from further use. This does not always mean your PC is broken — it usually means the key itself failed a compliance check on Microsoft's side.

Common triggers include keys that were reported as stolen, refunded through a chargeback, or issued outside the license terms (for example, a volume key sold as retail). The block is tied to the key, not your hardware.

How to Fix It

  1. Open Settings → System → Activation and note the exact error code shown.
  2. If you purchased the key recently, contact the seller with your order ID and request a replacement or refund.
  3. Do not run repeated activation attempts in a loop — this will not unblock the key.
  4. If the key came pre-installed (OEM), contact the device manufacturer; OEM keys are not transferable.
  5. For a new legitimate license, use a verified marketplace that offers buyer protection and replacement guarantees.
